WHAT IS KOLLABORATION?

Kollaboration is an annual non-profit talent show competition produced by passionate students and young professionals. However, Kollaboration is so much more than a talent show – it is a movement with the unique mission of “Empowerment Through Entertainment”. It endeavors to entertain and engage the local community through a celebration of API talent, thereby expanding representation of (Asian and Pacifica Islander) API in mainstream media as well as raising public awareness of API issues.
Every year, Kollaboration continues to rally together students, businesses, community leaders, celebrities, and performers across the API community together for the common cause of “Empowerment Through Entertainment”.

“EMPOWERMENT THROUGH ENTERTAINMENT”

Kollaboration Boston’s mission of “Empowerment Through Entertainment” hinges on 4 core values: Entertainment, Awareness, Community, and Talent.

  1. Kollaboration is an exciting source of ENTERTAINMENT for greater Boston through its celebration of API talent.
  2. Kollaboration raises AWARENESS of API issues by expanding API presence in mainstream media.
  3. Kollaboration mobilizes all demographics of the Boston COMMUNITY by providing many engagement opportunities for performers, volunteers, and sponsors.
  4. Kollaboration provides a platform for API youth to express their extraordinary creative TALENT.

A BRIEF HISTORY

  • Kollaboration was founded in 2000 in Los Angeles by Paul “PK” Kim and officially incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in 2006
  • Has grown into a national movement, with Kollaboration shows selling out in 11 different cities: LA, Chicago, Seattle, Atlanta, DC, NY, Tulsa, Houston, Columbia, San Francisco, Toronto
  • 2011 marks the launch of Kollaboration Boston, making Boston the 12th city ever to get on board

WHY BOSTON?

Despite Boston’s large API presence, there have not been any opportunities or experiences that both unite the community to expose its vast talents. Kollaboration Boston seeks to fill that void by serving as a platform for entertainment, awaresness, community and talent for greater Boston. Given the success of the annual Kollaboration shows in 11 cities across the Unites States, it was only a matter of time until Kollaboration Boston came to life. That time is now.
